Police have arrested a 27-year old Heidelberg man following a fatal hit run in West Footscray yesterday afternoon.

A 54-year old male cyclist was killed when he was struck by a white ute on Barkly Street.

The driver fled the scene.

The person who took the photo of the alleged offender has been praised by police.

Neil Mitchell spoke with Detective Acting Senior Sergeant, Mark Patrick from Major Collisions.

‘It really makes our day a lot easier. My hats off to that person.’

Police gave some advice to the offender on the Neil Mitchell program.

‘My advice is, start showing some remorse for what occurred yesterday.’

‘Give yourself up, it’s only a matter of time before we catch with you.’ – Det Patrick told 3AW Mornings.
