Dairy workers have begun a 48 hour strike across Victoria for improved wages and conditions, causing concerns about dairy product shortages.

National Dairy Coordinator for the United Workers Union, Neil Smith, says the industry is reaching a “crisis point”, and while it’s currently too early for shortages, the state could feel the impacts of the strike soon.

“This sort of thing has never happened in the history of dairy manufacturing so…it’s hard to say that there can’t be any effect when it’s all corners of the state, all major processors,” he said.
