Workers in “critical” industries will be exempt from close contact isolation requirements in Victoria, the Premier has just announced.

Daniel Andrews said on Thursday that workers in emergency services, education, critical utilities, custodial facilities and all transport and freight would be eligible for the exemption to isolate when identified as a close contact of a COVID-19 case.

The new rules come into effect from 11.59pm on Tuesday.

“If they are playing a critical role, they will be exempt from having to do home iso,” Mr Andrews said.

Those seeking the exemption must test negative on a rapid antigen test for five days before being able to work.

Mr Andrews said those rapid tests must be provided by the employer.
