The right-hand lane on major freeways should have a higher speed limit according to David Galbally QC.

Speaking on 3AW Mornings, the programs legal adviser told Neil Mitchell the criticisms he has of the road system.

‘Drivers get frustrated when you have three cars abreast all travelling at 90 kmph and they’re blocking up the traffic.’

‘It creates anger, impatience and can create dangerous situtions.’ he said.

Using the Geelong Road as an example, Mr Galbally said making the outside lane 110 kmph and leaving the remaining two lanes at 100 kmph would improve traffic movement.

‘If you change the speed limit in the outside lane it will mean it will be a lot easier to overtake.’
