David Leyonheljm calls for removal of taxes on imported and luxury cars

David Leyonheljm has called for the removal of taxes on imported and luxury cars, saying the Federal Government should have removed them when Australia’s car manufacturing business shut down for good last year.

“There’s absolutely no reason (for the taxes) whatsoever, they should have been removed already,” the Liberal Democrats Senator told Tom Elliott.

“Motorists aren’t really resistant enough to paying taxes.

“I think they probably think ‘Oh, it’s only a petrol tax’, then they don’t add up they’re also paying registration, taxes on the price of the car, tolls and think, ‘Why am I paying so much?’

“I think our governments are basically addicted to extracting money from us.”
