Senator David Leyonhjelm has lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission after he was described by a journalist as ‘an angry white male.’

The complaint falls under the infamous section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act.

Section 18C of the Act makes it unlawful to commit an act that would reasonably offend, insult, humiliate, or intimidate someone ?because of their race, colour, ?or ethnic origin.

The crossbench Senator believes section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act is ‘stupid’ and should be scrapped.

‘I can highlight the stupidity of the section by lodging this complaint,’ Mr Leyonhjelm told Tom Elliott.

‘I don’t believe feelings should be the subject of the law at all.’

He said suggesting that white people couldn’t have a valid claim for remedies under the section is ‘racist in itself’.
