Dawn Fraser backs Neil Mitchell campaign to present Jared Tallent his Gold Medal on AFL Grand Final day

Olympic legend Dawn Fraser says she’d love to present Australian walker Jared Tallent with his gold medal at the MCG after he was robbed at the London games by a Russian drug cheat.

The Australian Olympic Committee has offered Tallent a modest medal presentation at Melbourne’s Treasury building on June 17, but Neil Mitchell is pushing for a bigger ceremony.

The 3AW Mornings host says he should be recognised with a ceremony on AFL grand final day.

But sponsorship deals appear to be getting in the way.

‘It’s just so frustrating, he deserves it,’ Neil Mitchell said.

Fraser, a four-time Olympic Gold medallist, said she’d love to help out.

‘I know what it’s like walking out on the MCG during the Olympics in 1956,’ she said on 3AW Mornings.

‘I tell you what, it’s absolutely fantastic.

‘To have Jared up on the stage there ? He’s been unrecognised in this country as a gold medallist.’
