Dean Jones and Greg Matthews discuss David Warner’s captaincy credentials
Dean Jones has implored David Warner to stay away from ‘argy bargy’ on the field.
Warner was involved in a string of confrontations with West Indians Carlos Brathwaite and Jason Holder during Australia’s second innings, before being dismissed for 17.
Jones said the Australian vice-captain needs to stay focused on scoring runs.
‘I think he’s just got to get back to the same desperation that we saw 12 months ago,’ he said.
‘The peripheral things are becoming a little bit more important than what’s happening in the middle.’
Greg Matthews said he has no doubt Warner is tactically sound enough to captain Australia, but queried whether he has the temperament.
‘It would be interesting to see if he did get involved in that ‘peripheral stuff’ (if he was captain).’
