Dee Dee has lashed out at Guy Sebastian for retracting his support for an entertainment industry campaign to boost COVID-19 vaccination rates.

The singer posted a statement on Instagram supporting the #VaxTheNation campaign, but then removed it, it saying it was posted by a member of his team without his direct involvement.

He issued a video on social media saying he “would never ever tell people what to do when it comes to their personal health choices”.

Dee Dee says she’s “really disappointed” by Guy Sebastian’s actions.

“Guy Sebastian is part of that campaign along with some other big names in the industry … a lot of them have been hammered on social media having taken part in that campaign but most of them are going to just tough it out,” she said.

“But not Guy. The anti-vaxxers have got to Guy, I think.

“He’s someone with a very powerful voice in this country and yet here he is looking wishy washy on the subject of vaccinations.”

Dee Dee also questioned the musician’s claim that he “would never ever tell people what to do when it comes to their personal health”.

“There’s a bit of an inconsistency there because Guy Sebastian backed a campaign for a children’s multi-vitamin brand,” the 3AW Afternoons host said.

“Now I personally don’t think you need to give your kids multi-vitamins. They can get all they need through their diet. He was happy to back that — probably paid for it — and yet not this.

“”I think this is irresponsible from Guy Sebastian.”

#VaxTheNation sent 3AW the following statement;

We all miss our loved ones – our friends, our family, and being able to gather again. We all want to get back to the magic of live events. #VAXTHENATION is not a political campaign tied to any Government, and we welcome open conversation. The campaign is self-funded by the industry and the position of the LIVE Alliance (Live Industry Venues and Entertainment Alliance) is that high vaccination rates are the only way to get the show back on the road. We are encouraging people to seek professional health advice and make an informed choice. Head to our website vaxthenation.com.au/resources to read more about informed consent. – #VAXTHENATION
