A Ukrainian woman forced to flee her home in Kyiv has spoken to Dee Dee about evacuating as Russian forces approached the capital.

34-year-old Katerina Kononchuk has now found refuge in the western part of the country, but says she does not want to completely leave.

“This is my country, I will not leave it,” she said on 3AW Afternoons.

“I want to build my country, I live my best life in this country, I’m sure that Ukraine will win (against) this awful aggressor — this Hitler of the 21st century — and I want to return to Kyiv and continue building my future.

“I will not leave this country, and also I have to be useful be here to make whatever my people need.

“If my people need me to come back to Kyiv and make Molotov cocktails, okay I’ll come back so I will not leave this country, this is for sure.

“This is my motherland, and we should defend out land, if we will not defend, who will? Nobody.”
