Department of Transport issues heartfelt long weekend message

Tom Elliott

The Department of Transport is pleading for drivers to take care on Victoria’s roads this long weekend.

“Choose to make it to Tuesday,” a heartfelt post from staff on the VicTraffic Facebook page said this morning.

Neil Mitchell says it’s an “unprecedented” act from the Transport Department.

There have been 71 lives lost on Victorian roads this year — 22 more than at the same time last year.

“March is historically the worst month and the Labor Day long weekend in particular … for reasons we generally can’t put our finger on,” Chris Miller from the Department of Transport told Neil Mitchell.
