Deputy lord mayor slams ‘idiotic’ and ‘vile’ statue vandalism

Deputy lord mayor Nick Reece has slammed the “reprehensible” defacing of a statue in Kings Domain on Monday.

The 72-year-old King George monument was beheaded and sprayed with red paint.

“It’s idiotic, it’s vile, it’s unacceptable and it’s reprehensible,” Nick Reece said on 3AW Mornings.

“Unfortunately it’s part of a worrying trend – we’ve seen this happen with a few statues around Melbourne and it also involves the spraying of red paint.”
