Derryn Hinch takes a bat to the Brownlow Medal
Derryn Hinch has taken a bat to Monday night’s Brownlow Medal coverage.
The Senator told 3AW Mornings the immediate emotion of Dustin Martin’s win was sapped by proceedings.
“You don’t get the instant emotion from him because some old fart from the AFL comes out and makes a little speech and has a toast,” Mr Hinch said.
“You should have (Bruce) McAvaney interview him and get the emotion of the winner for five minutes, then let the AFL chief come out and propose a toast in the formal capacity.
“It was his moment and it was drained.”
He then hit out at the constant gambling advertising featuring former AFL champs such as Barry Hall.
“Sporting heroes, who kids identify with, pushing bets about the last round, or second round – I think it’s obscene,” he said.
