Comedian Arj Barker has moved to clarify the circumstances which led to him asking a breastfeeding mother to leave his Comedy Festival show.

It emerged on Monday that Trish and her baby were told to leave the gig at the Athenaeum Theatre on Saturday night, with the mother telling Tom Elliott she was left “humiliated” and “intimated” from the incident.

The American comedian explained to 3AW Mornings that he felt “really awkward” asking Trish and her baby to leave, stressing his show is sold as a 15+ event.

“It was really awkward for me to be honest,” he told Tom Elliott.

“I made the decision not for myself, but for the audience. I think I did the right thing, but it was a very difficult situation.”
