Digital licences: No date set for Victoria as state lags five years behind

There are calls for Victoria to catch up with other states and introduce digital driver’s licences on mobile phones.

South Australia has had the option since 2017.

In NSW, almost 70 per cent of drivers have their licence on their phone since the option was introduced in 2019.

Victorian Transport Association chief executive Peter Anderson says our current system is outdated.

“I don’t think we’ve got the capacity or the capability in our IT structures to allow us to do it,” he told 3AW Breakfast.

“What we are doing in Victoria is we’re looking for a partner to help us with our customer interface and to actually draw out more investment.

“We’re just not there yet.”

No date has yet been set for motorists in Victoria to have the option of storing their licence on their phone.
