More than 550 balconies inspected for flammable cladding removal have been found to be defective.
President of the Builders Collective of Australia, Phil Dwyer, says “it’s a disastrous situation and somebody will be killed one of these days”.
The Age reports the balconies were discovered during inspections of 339 buildings that received government-funding to remove flammable cladding.
Half of those buildings also had other faults.
Safety concerns have delayed the replacement of hazardous flammable cladding by an average of three months.
