Disposal efficiency to turn on Power

Port Adelaide will enter the 2017 with the pressure well and truly on, given the last two years have been below par.

Ken Hinkley burst onto the coaching scene in 2013, taking Port Adelaide to the finals in his first season, followed by a narrow Preliminary Final loss to Hawthorn in 2014, however since then the Power have stalled.

Club legend Kane Cornes today said this season is make or break for Ken Hinkley, and captain Travis Boak knows it will be an important year ahead.

‘There’s going to be pressures. Over the last couple of years we haven’t performed the way we wanted to,’ Boak told 3AW’s Sports Today program.

‘There’s a long road ahead of us and some challenges we have to face.’

An aspect of Port Adelaide’s game that has declined in quality since 2014 is the team’s disposal efficiency.

Boak admits that it has been identified as an area of improvement and they haven’t wasted any time in working on it.

‘We need to work on that. A few things have changed this pre-season through that.’

Port Adelaide will welcome back Patrick Ryder and Angus Monfries from their WADA ban, which Boak believes will make a difference.

‘You can tell that they’ve really missed the place.’

‘Already we’ve done some stoppage work and to have Paddy back in there has been a real treat.’

Travis Boak has been re-appointed as Port Adelaide’s captain for the fifth consecutive season, which equal’s Matthew Primus as the longest serving captain of the club.
