Dodgeball’s not just a sport featured in a Ben Stiller comedy.

And it’s not for the faint of heart.

Tom Elliott spoke to Amber Darwinkel, the captain of the Australian Women’s Dodgeball team who will lead the team ahead of the world championships later this month.

‘I’ve dislocated fingers, we’ve got broken hands, it definitely hurts when you get hit in the face,’ she said.

Ms Darwinkel came across the sport in high school, and after searching online she found a league to join.

The movie of the same name definitely gave the sport some much needed publicity.

‘Definitely the movie had given a lot of exposure to the sport in that regard,’ she said.
