Optus’ mobile and fixed broadband services are mostly up and running again after Wednesday morning’s unprecedented widespread outage.

The disruption affected critical services such as hospitals and emergency services, as well as throwing the Melbourne train network into chaos.

Futurist and Technologist Steve Sammartino said we are “very poor” at having backup analog systems which would kick in when modern technology fails.

“I think we are probably too reliant (on technology),” he told Tom Elliott on 3AW Drive.
