RUMOUR CONFIRMED

A dog has been shot and killed after it attacked a police officer while he was trying to arrest a man at Dandenong North.

3AW Breakfast’s Rumour File was alerted to the incident on Monday.

Victoria Police said they were responding to reports of an alleged breach of a court order and assault when the attack happened.

The dog was initially sprayed which police said had “no effect” on the animal.

The Constable who was bitten was taken to hospital with a serious leg injury.

A 58-year-old woman received minor injuries.

A 31-year-old woman was arrested a short distance away and is currently assisting police.

Professional Standards Command will oversee the investigation as per police policy.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
