Like many Bulldogs fans, Rob McCarthy had waited his whole life to see his team win a flag.

He was lucky enough to procure a ticket to the game, which was always going to be a tense affair.

With the game on the line at three-quarter time, Rob joked that he might have a heart attack during the final term.

Unfortunately, the joke became reality.

Rob told Neil Mitchell’s he is lucky he was able to watch the game at at the MCG where paramedics could attend to him.

He said he missed the most critical part of the match.

‘Apparently I sat up and my first question was: ‘did the Doggies win?” he said.

Rob said he’s grateful to the paramedics and nurses who saved his life.

‘Our medical system probably needs a kick in the behind, but our medicos are probably the best in the world,’ he said.
