A victim of domestic violence who fled her abusive husband was horrified to find her new address and phone number online after she moved to a National Broadband Network plan.

Jane, which is not her real name, moved to the country with her children and set up a silent phone number.

She told Neil Mitchell she was assured by Telstra when she switched to the NBN her phone number would remain silent.

But she was horrified to find her new address and phone number online on the White Pages after the changeover went through.

‘I went to great lengths to make sure he didn’t know where we were,’ she said.

‘I just have to hope he didn’t see it.’

Jane contacted Telstra immediately and said it was promptly taken down.

‘The illusion of safety is gone,’ she said.
