Adelaide Crows coach Don Pyke has stepped down from the top job.

Pyke leaves after four seasons and one 2017 Grand Final appearance, despite having two years remaining on his contract.

He is the fifth coach to depart this season.

Rohan Connolly told 3AW Drive the news didn’t come as shock.

“It’s been a bit of a surprise in the timing, but the fact there was reviews going on meant the writing was on the wall,” said Connolly.

“They’ve had a miraculous down fall considering two years ago they were contenders for the flag.

“It’s hard not top think that camp was pivotal, it fractured the bond between the coaching staff and the playing group.

“Ross Lyon is a very good coach with an established list, he wouldn’t be the worst option to whip them into shape.”

Longtime club man, Taylor Walker, also recently stepped down as captain.
