Article image for Donna Demaio’s Gossip Sheet – August 17

Quote of the week: ‘Now let’s both sit in the back so we can gossip’ says John Cleese to his publicist JP Bolton as they get into a car. Seems the comic legend likes a chat. And he’s been extremely obliging, popping up across the nation to spruik Fawlty Towers Live. The show heads to Melbourne after a Sydney season

Another tweet of the week:

3AW broadcaster Neil Mitchell will do his program from the Shrine of Remembrance this Thursday, in honour of Vietnam Veterans. The Shrine has just opened a photography exhibition Behind the Wire: Images and Stories of Vietnam Veterans. The exhibition includes pics of soldiers, sailors, nurses, cooks  tank drivers and others. Photographer Susan Gordon-Brown will host a free exhibition talk on August 23rd at 6pm.

It’s a big secret ahead of Friday’s reveal –  where will this year’s celebration of pasta and truffle take place. Chef Daniel Tonino (known as Danny Pasta) is passionate about both pasta and truffle and is framing a night to remember for those who share his love of food. The truffles come in from WA while the meal is matched with wines from Victoria’s Christmont winery. Tonino quotes a French novelist. ‘To hell with thin slices, strips, trimmings and peels of truffles? Is it not possible to like them for themselves?’ https://www.limeandtonic.com.au/melbourne/events/3540/?token=p2tiljootl8alojely6nqwcuwbfy1kdz

James Cummings.

James Cummings.

Fashion tips from the grandson of the great Bart Cummings, James Cummings as he was unveiled as one of four new Julius Marlow ambassadors for the men?s shoes Spring Summer campaign. Looking sharp, Cummings tipped tie clips are the next big thing for blokes  – and pocket squares. Duly noted as Spring Racing draws near. Other ambassadors Ash Williams, Sasha Mielczarek and J.R.Reyne.

And there?s fun to be had with men?s fashion in coming weeks, as designer Nunzio Bagnato takes the reigns of the Dom Bagnato runway at Fashion Aid in September.  The impeccably cool Bagnato, with trusty dad (Dom) by his side, will squeeze in the Myer Spring Fashion VRC lunch at Flemington, Melbourne Spring Fashion Week and the Fashion Aid major charity event ? all in September.

Another cooking show? Why not. Popular former Masterchef participants Emma and Lynton are charming their way through 90 episodes of My Market Kitchen for Channel Ten. The Lord Mayor and Matt Preston help out as they couple share recipes and check out Queen Victoria Market. The half hour show premieres next Monday at 3.30.

Which top designer has vowed to ignore the repeated requests of a certain Melbourne socialite, who keeps begging to be ‘dressed’ in the designer’s creations?

Peter Overton, Jessica Rowe and Peter Hitchener at City2Surf

Spotted: Looking a picture of health, Channel 9 newsreader and all round great guy Peter Hitchener completing the City2Surf in Sydney. He even bumped into Peter Overton and Jessica Rowe in his travels. Congrats runner number 82598. By the way, did you know there?s a plaque in Hitch?s honour at the 9 newsroom in Melbourne that actually reads  – ?the nicest man in television?

Charity of the week: Writer, comedian and tv producer Brian Nankervis will host the 14th Robert Rose Lecture ? an annual initiative to raise funds for people with spinal cord injuries and their families. The Robert Rose Foundation was set up by Collingwood football legend Bob Rose after the death of his son who was left a quadriplegic by a car accident. The event at the RACV club on September 7 is being supported by Melbourne Press Club.www.melbournepressclub.com/events
