Quote of the week: ‘Photo cred to the creepy pap hiding in the bushes,’ says actor Margot Robbie who has maintained a healthy sense of humour when it comes to her superstardom. She posted the accompanying pic on Instagram and said, ‘Thanks for always catching me at my best angles #blessed.’ Hilarious. Looking forward to her next big role in Suicide Squad.

Caroline O’Connor is scrutinising a film offer. The theatre legend is back in Melbourne for The Production Company’s Funny Girl at the Arts Centre. After stepping off stage on opening night, she told me, ‘I feel really honoured to be asked to come back to Melbourne to play Fanny Brice.’ She also revealed, ‘I don’t want to leave Australia permanently, no way. But I’m being offered more and more work overseas and I didn’t think that would happen at this stage of my career but it is, especially in New York.’ O’Connor revealed she’s said yes to ‘doing a reading of a new film.’

An excited Rhonda Burchmore handed me ‘her scoop’ ? she is returning to perform in London in October after a 21 year hiatus. She’s been invited to do a one night only Cabaret show at the St James Theatre on the West End and, needless to say and rightly so, is thrilled to bits. ‘The last time I was there was for Hot Shoe Shuffle. I’ve always kept my British equity and now that Lexie (her daughter) is all grown up?.’

Spotted: Thor’s Chris Hemsworth having a grand old time at Scienceworks. He shared his fun on Instagram with ‘raced the legendary Cathy Freeman today and if I hadn’t tweaked my hamstring I reckon I had her?not really #scienceworks #hamstringsfine.’

Wentworth, the superb Foxtel drama, has been renewed for a fifth season and all fans of the quality show are rejoicing at the news. Meanwhile, one of the series’ superstars Danielle Cormack (Bea Smith) has been visiting Cambodia for ChildFund Australia in her bid to #makeadifference.

Graduate of the week: One of Australia’s best-loved cricketers, Jason Gillespie, has received an honorary degree from Leeds Beckett University . He accepted the Honorary Doctorate of Sport Science, admitting the honour was ‘a bit surreal.’ Dizzy who is Australia’s sixth highest wicket taker in Test cricket told graduating students, ‘ it’s a big wide world out there so embrace it and try and do things that you really love doing.’

For the first time at a Summer Olympic Games, Australia will be represented by more women than men, with the addition of a women’s eight rowing crew  – the team will grow to 419 athletes ? 212 women and 207 men. Chef de Mission Kitty Chiller said today, ‘Gender balance has been something that has been incredibly important in the Olympic movement, and particularly to Australia.’

Roc’s Bar is the new kid on the Chapel Street block looking for attention. The opening night at the Jam Factory saw a cool crowd hang out with cocktails in hand ahead of a V MAX screening of action thriller Jason Bourne. Actor Matt Damon even sent a special video message to welcome the film/bar goers.

Dannii Minogue is heading to the cinema. She will join a throng of Absolutely Fabulous fans walking the red carpet for the Melbourne premiere of the highly-anticipated and passionately-promoted film at  Village Cinemas at Crown next Tuesday. And yes, the mad cap duo of Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley will be there. Ace.

A bunch of Juventus soccer players figured they needed a haircut while in Melbourne, so stylist and Smash It founder Frank Ciccone (Hair by Ciccone) was first in line to crop the locks of more than a dozen of the sports stars. Combining his two passions, hair and sport, is what Ciccone does best.

Charity of the week: What a formidable pairing. Jimmy Barnes is joining Olivia Newton John for her annual ONJ gala at Crown Palladium on September 17th. Bound to be another success for ONJ, the Lights, Camera, Action themed-night also has Jon Stevens, Swing On This, Kinky Boots The Musical, and Jason Heerah to entertain. http://www.oliviaappeal.com/
