Lord mayor of Melbourne Nicholas Reece is backing an idea to make Victoria the ‘most optimistic city’ following on from the Melbourne 2050 Summit.

He says the idea came after a survey found Finland to have been the happiest country in the world.

“The young people at our summit went ‘Hey that’s something that Melbourne should go after’,” he said.

He’s also in support of changing Melbourne’s recognised seasons from four to six based on the Wurundjeri seasons.

He says it’s an interesting idea which “makes sense”.

“Don’t just rule it out, I would like you to think about it,” he told Tom Elliott.
