Dozens of sharks spotted near Anglesea and Fairhaven

Dozens of sharks have been spotted in Victorian waters over the weekend, says Fisheries Victoria.

The shark sightings have been around Fairhaven and Anglesea areas, with 15 to 20 spotted at Fairhaven alone.

At least 27 sharks were sighted by the Life Saving Victoria helicopter.

Paul Shannon, General Manager of Life Saving Victoria tells 3AW’s Justin and Kate these sightings are more than they would expect to see at this time of year.

‘There’s more people at the beach, there’s more people in the water.’

‘When there is greater surveillance, there’s always going to be great reporting,’ Paul said on 3AW Breakfast.

Beachgoers are advised to only swim at patrolled beaches and make sure they always swim between the flags.
