Victoria’s ‘obsession’ with freeways is apparently 50 years out of date.

Dr Crystal Legacy wrote an article in The Age this week, saying it was time to move away from roads and inject more money and effort into public transport.

She spoke with Tom Elliott on Wednesday.

‘We’ve got some new problems here that metropolitan melbourne is now facing including an increase in population, urbanisation and climate change,’ Dr Legacy explained.

‘Freeway construction won’t necessarily be our solution.’

Dr Legacy said Victoria’s train signal system needed to be updated, also mooting tram extensions into the west of Melbourne, rail to the airport and freight on rail.
