Drive-by shooting in Hampton

Ross and Russel

There’s been gunshots fired in Melbourne’s south-east, several hours after the state government announced a crackdown on drive-by shootings.

About five shots were fired on Lawson Street in Hampton about 11pm yesterday.

Bullets hit a house and a parked car.

A man and a woman were inside the home at the time but were not injured.

No arrests have been made.

The shooting came just hours after the state government announced new laws in response to a surge in drive-by shootings across Melbourne.

If the legislation is passed, police will be able to charge everyone in a car involved in a drive-by shooting, regardless of who pulled the trigger.

They will also no longer have to prove the culprits intended to cause serious harm.

LISTEN: Ross and John joined by Pat Mitchell to discuss the shooting (in Burnso’s old neighbourhood), the new laws and pose the question: Is it a drive-by shooting if you walk past a house?
