Driver found hanging out of car after shocking smash
Fire crews say they’re amazed the driver involved in a spectacular crash at Westmeadows this morning wasn’t killed instantly.
The sedan was torn apart in the crash off Broadmeadows Road shortly after 4am – the rear of the car ending up about 20 metres away.
The MFB said it arrived to find the 46-year-old driver lying half in-half out of the vehicle.
They performed CPR before paramedics arrived, taking the man to hospital.
He’s in a critical condition.
Brook could see the carnage from her kitchen window.
“The loud bang was massive, it shook my house,” she told Neil Mitchell.
“I saw there was the 10 men around, I could hear them yelling, call an ambulance, it was full on.”
She said she didn’t hear any screeching in the lead up to the crash.
“It didn’t even look like a car,” she said.
Neil Mitchell said before before the first responders arrived, a number of good samaritans stopped to help.
