Police say a motorist is lucky to be alive after a fiery crash at near Footscray Cemetery.

The man’s 2018 Ford Mustang is unrecognisable this morning after the dramatic smash in Yarraville.

The car has been left a burnt out wreck after hitting a tree off Geelong Road last night.

Police say the 26-year-old Point Cook man behind the wheel is lucky to be alive.

He was ejected from the vehicle moments before it burst into flames.

He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are investigating whether speed was a factor in the crash and will speak with the driver at a later date.
