A man who allegedly caused a series of car crashes in the northern suburbs last night has been tackled in a dramatic citizen’s arrest.

The man is believed to have been behind the wheel of a Mazda CX-7 travelling north on High Street in Epping, when he smashed into four other vehicles – leaving a trail of destruction between Park Street and Memorial Avenue around 9pm last night.

Police say the 35-year-old attempted to flee the scene but the driver of one of the other vehicles has given chase, wrestling the man to the ground.

Five people including the 35-year-old were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say they’re awaiting the results of a blood test and the investigation is ongoing.
