Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton has told 3AW Drive he will fight the Administrative Appeals Tribunal’s decision to allow an Irish paedophile priest to remain a citizen of Australia.

As reported in the Herald Sun, Finian Egan has been named as the child rapist the Administrative Appeals Tribunal is trying to save from deportation, after Mr Dutton cancelled Egan’s citizenship in 2016.

He told Tom Elliott protection of Australian children was paramount in his decision.

“I’m going to appeal the decision, I think it’s important to look at individual cases where it’s clear to me there should be a cancellation of citizenship,” Mr Dutton said.

“I don’t believe that he deserves to stay.”
