Echuca woman stuck paying rent on inundated home

An Echuca woman is stuck paying rent on a property which has been inundated by floodwaters.

Water in Nicole’s rented home is currently up to her knee, and floodwaters outside the property are waist-high.

But she’s been told she must continue to pay rent on the property until an inspection can be conducted.

She says sewage is floating into the house.

“It’s horrific,” she told Neil Mitchell.

“Surely they’ve got policies and procedures in place for emergencies like this, but they just say they don’t know at the moment and they’ve just got to wait until the water recedes to see if I can live in it or not.

“I’d love to be able to stay there … but I don’t know that it’s going to be liveable.”
