Education Department’s urgent step amid severe teacher shortage
The Victorian Education Department has written to teachers on maternity and paternity leave asking if they’re interested in returning to teaching temporarily.
It comes as some schools have been forced to return to online learning for some year levels due to staff shortages fuelled by COVID-19 and the flu.
Teachers on parental leave have been sent an email inviting them to “express interest in temporarily resuming to work as a teacher or engaging in CRT work”.
“That’s how short they are!,” Neil Mitchell said.
