An education expert says he’s a “little torn” by a proposal from Labor that would see high-achieving students paid up to $12,000 a year to study for an education degree and then work in regional parts of Australia.

Former school principal Adam Voigt told 3AW Breakfast he was supportive of “anything” that would help deal with education workforce issues.

But he’s not sure that plan is the answer.

“It feels like a big announcement about something that has quite limited impact,” he said.
