Eight feet too long: The extra long wicket for cricketers at Albert Park
The bowlers had their work cut out for them during Saturday’s game between St Kilda and Footscray Edgewater in Albert Park.
The pitch at Harry Trott Oval in Albert Park was eight feet too long.
It wasn’t until the stumps were in on Saturday that the boys knew something was wrong, Footscray Edgewater’s senior coach Steven Chapman said.
‘Essentially when everybody was inspecting the pitch there was nothing stuck at either end to gauge the distance, so nobody really picked up on it,’ he said.
‘But certainly a couple of the bowlers picked up on it straight away.’
He said it was just an oversight, and the measuring tape was brought out at the end of the game to double check.
Sure enough, it was out.
