A man has died after a shocking, fiery crash at Tyabb that could leave roads closed for days.

At least 100 firefighters were called to the scene after a car and a LPG tanker collided on Dandenong-Hastings Road about 8.15pm last night.

It’s believed the Mercedes-Benz car had veered into the path of the truck.

The car was found about 200m away from the crash, and the driver was killed at the scene.

Incredibly, the tanker occupants escaped with minor injuries.

The intensity of the fire prevented emergency services from getting closer for some time.

Locals described hearing a massive explosion that shook nearby houses.

3AW reporter Pat Mitchell told Ross and John it was “amazing” that no one else was killed.

He said roads will closed today and possibly over the weekend as emergency services clear the crash and investigate.

Another tanker is currently on the scene decanting the gas (pictured below, courtesy of Australian Traffic Network).
