The emergency management commissioner has urged Victorians to “not become complacent” about the risk of fires this summer.

While late rain means undergrowth in parts of the state is still wet, that’s certainly not the case everywhere.

“The far east of the state is still pretty green but when you get to the west of the state and that sort of fringe around the north of Melbourne … it’s dried out,” Andrew Crisp told Neil Mitchell.

Mr Crisp says the risk in the west and south-west of Victoria in coming days is a concern.

Melbourne is heading for a top of 35 degrees today and tomorrow, while in the state’s north-west, temperatures are expected to soar above 40 degrees.
