Empty offices blamed for closure of iconic Melbourne cafe

3AW Afternoons

The closure of Pope Joan’s city location has been blamed on half-empty city offices and rising costs.

Co-owner and chef at French Saloon, Kirk’s Wine Bar and Kirk’s Cellar Dining, Ian Curley, says the increase of rents and other costs have impacted cafes and restaurants.

“With people coming back to try and make money back after COVID, the rents have all gone up, produce has gone up and staffing is so critical,” he told Jacqui Felgate.
