Emu dies after being hand-cuffed by police on Princes Highway
RUMOUR CONFIRMED: An emu has died after being crash-tackled and ‘arrested’ by police.
Motorists called police on Saturday, concerned about an emu running between traffic on the Princes Highway.
As revealed on 3AW Breakfast’s Rumour File, Highway Patrol officers attempted to round the emu up with a patrol car.
But when that didn’t work, an officer crash-tackled the five-and-a-half foot creature to the ground
Handcuffs were then used to restrain its legs.
A vet arrived at the scene but the emu, under immense stress, sadly died.
The police officer involved suffered cuts and grazes.
