Energy analyst says Australians are being slugged for gas prices by a ‘cartel’
Australians are being slugged for gas prices by a ‘cartel’ of suppliers.
Energy analyst Bruce Robertson told Tom Elliott gas suppliers like Origin, Shell, and BHP are controlling the market.
‘They’ve formed a cartel, and they’re basically controlling the price,’ Mr Robertson said.
‘They’re restricting supply to Australian consumers and forcing the price up.’
Mr Robertson said it doesn’t add up that our prices are higher than in a country like Japan, who imports our supply.
‘There is no reason why the gas price in Australia should be higher than it is in the most expensive market in the world,’ he said.
Australian gas prices have soared in recent years despite a significant fall in global prices.
