ESPN tennis commentator sparks outrage by saying Venus Williams had turned on ‘gorilla effect’ at Australian Open

An American tennis commentator has sparked outrage after he said Venus Williams had turned on the ‘gorilla effect’ during her second-round match at the Australian Open.

Williams advanced to the third-round of the tournament with a straight sets victory over Stefanie Voegele at Rod Laver Arena.

But the slur made by ESPN’s Doug Adler is what’s grabbed headlines.

He has since apologised.
