Essendon skipper spurred on by St Kilda’s second-half against Richmond
By JAKE BOURKE
St Kilda looked absolutely irresistible in its 67-point thumping of Richmond last Saturday night, but Dyson Heppell sensed something Essendon could use to its advantage on Friday night.
And he was proven right.
Speaking on 3AW Football after the Bombers’ 61-point hiding of the Saints, Heppell explained why St Kilda’s second-half against the Tigers gave him added confidence heading into Friday night’s clash.
“You could sense a bit of a lull in their intensity,” the Essendon captain said.
“What I’ve noticed over a couple of our wins this year when we’ve … I guess you’d call it slacking off or not playing the game right out – you tend to, for some reason, have a poor start the following week.
“It’s just vital to make sure you’re playing the game right out to the finish line and set your momentum for the week and you’re ready to go for that next game.”
