Is it ok to send a receptionist home for not wearing high heels?

Anna Musson, Etiquette Expert and founder of Good Manners Company, told Tom Elliott on Thursday she has no problem with it.

London receptionist Nicola Thorp was sent home from work after refusing to wear high heels.

The 27-year-old arrived at her job at a finance company in flat shoes.

She was told she had to wear shoes with a 2-4 inch heel and when she refused she was sent home.

Anna Musson, Etiquette Expert and founder of Good Manners Company, says it’s fair enough.

‘You have got to assume that the receptionist is the first port of call to represent the business,’ she said

‘And minimum dress standard is required and for business attire the definition is a heel, pantyhose, jacket, smart top, a groomed appearance, hair and make-up. I don’t think that’s too much to ask.’
