European-inspired upgrade proposed for banks of the Yarra, featuring 50m pool

A detailed proposal has been released for a European-inspired upgrade of the river bank park behind the Aquarium, featuring a 50-metre chlorinated pool.

The video below shows a dramatic transformation of Enterprise Park behind the Aquarium on the northern side of the Yarra River.

Inspired by some of the world’s most livable cities like Helsinki, Copenhagen and Paris, it features wetlands, an elevated walkway, a cafe, and kayak launching facilities.

The centrepiece is a 50-metre heated swimming pool.

Monique Woodward from Wowowa Architecture, the firm behind the proposal, told Nick McCallum there’s broad community support for the idea.

However, Ms Woodward was unable to put a figure on how much the park would cost.

Construction could start within two years if the City of Melbourne or the State Government back the idea.
