Ex-footballer Shannon Grant avoids prison for bashing ex-girlfriend three times
Former AFL player Shannon Grant has avoided jail for bashing his ex-girlfriend several times.
Grant, 41, attacked his partner three times between June and December last year.
The North Melbourne premiership player was sentenced to six months of jail earlier this year but then appealed.
The first incident was after a dinner party at his home at Highett.
That attack left his victim with facial injuries so bad that she had to go to hospital.
Another of the attacks happened after Christmas after what was supposed to be a romantic getaway in the Yarra Valley.
Excessive alcohol was blamed in each instance.
Judge Susan Cohen said Grant has good prospects of rehabilitation.
She ordered a two-year corrections order with strict conditions including anger management and alcohol sessions.
