A man has been charged over a security scare at Government House this morning.

A first revealed by Neil Mitchell, a man was arrested within the grounds about 3.15am.

It is alleged had a box cutter in his possession.

Neil Mitchell believes Governor Linda Dessau was home at the time, along with her husband Tony Howard.

Later today, a 40-year-old man from Capel Sound, near Tootgarook, was charged over the incident.

He face court on July 31 on charges of trespassing, possessing a controlled weapon and going equipped to steal.
