The majority of Australians are aware they need to be more active, but most don’t realise physical activity is a “wonder drug” for preventing illness and chronic diseases.

Professor Trevor Shilton, the Heart Foundation’s national spokesperson, told Ross and John the affects are huge yet less than half of the population gets the 30 minutes a day they need.

“The problem is people think you need to run a half marathon or bust your boiler at the gym,” Professor Shilton said.

“But for most of us it’s about getting off the couch and onto the footpath.”
