‘Exercise in buyer’s remorse’: Transport planning expert analyses the West Gate Tunnel

Transport Planning Expert, Dr Eric Keys, has unpacked the viability of the West Gate Tunnel project.

It comes after Jacqui Felgate and 3AW listeners noticed how little the tunnel has been used since opening in December.

“This is an exercise in buyer’s remorse,” Dr Keys said on 3AW Drive.

The 3AW Drive host asked him whether he thought the project was a “waste of taxpayers’ money”.

And Dr Keys had a simple response – “Absolutely.”

“It’s a $10 billion project where a one or two billion dollar project would’ve delivered the key benefits just as effectively,” he said.
